Hey all, Just found you guys recently when I did some repair searching.
Since the repairs are done I figure I should join up and say thanks for the tips! I have a 1985 Aero80 and recently acquired a 1984 in not so good condition. But got it running and riding in about 30mins. The choke wasn't working and the previous owner had vacuum and fuel lines mixed up in more than a few places lol.
On the '85 I've done plug, coil, CDI, rewired almost all the connections, new tires, cleaned the carb, roller weights, new belt, signal flasher, and an ignition switch, petcock, and manual choke mod. All of the items are stock fit and form. And the only thing I didn't really need to do was the coil. But I suspected it was getting weak.
Over the winter I'll be modifying the fuel tank and a sending unit so I have an accurate fuel level gauge. The stock sender is made from unobtainium, so it's time to get crafty with the welder.
The seat is currently getting re-upholstered with a faux leather lizard skin print.
Top speed on level ground showing on Speedo 70-72km/h (about 44mph). Downhill it's seen 76km/h (47mph). 8025km on the clock.
The 1984 needs a restore and some mechanicals. It's not pretty yet. The same choke mod, and likely most of the same things as the '85 minus the ignition parts (it runs). 4300kms? Over 4000kms... Probably just fix it up and sell it, can't ride two!
