Hello i bought a 84 aero today for 300, it seems to work well although i think the engine floods when i have the throttle wide open for too long (pinned for like 3 min's or so) but it starts right back up after it dies so idk what that problem is. ( ive had her for less than a day and it happened once in an hour of driving) i have an owners manual so i am going to run threw and clean everything and check if i need a new float valve or have a clogged jet or something. im open to any advice
i mainly have 2 questions however
1.) my rear rim is bent and i get the wobbles around 30. i cant find a rear wheel and want to know if a Honda metropolitan wheel will work. ive read about it being done to 85-87's but not 83-84's.
2.) are there any of the big bore kits available for nb50 that are 83-84. ? i have seen kits that will fit the 85 and on engine with no mods but i have an 84.... I want the kit so i can get to a soil 40mph. most roads i willl be on are 35 and i dont want cars to hate mopeds
i have also heard the spree nb50 big bore kit wont work due to different porting

The '83-'84 Aero 50 is sort of an orphan when it comes to aftermarket go fast stuff. Mainly because the '85 thru '87 were such and improvement. The '83-'84 has a bore and stroke that is different from any other scooter, hence the lack of a BBK.
The met wheel fitting is iffy as the splines were probably different. That wheel is used on the '83 and '84 only and the drive shaft is shared with the 1985 Aero 80, and other orphan.

Thank you so much for getting back to me Bear, I also emailed you in a attempt to get your opinion. I have been reading post after post by you online; I was also pleasantly shocked to see you are also a connoisseur of firearms. If I had seen your bear4570 tag in a scuba dive form as well I would have thought someone was trying to steal my identity. Anyways I’m not ready to give up on giving my 84 aero a boost. In other forms your signatures lists you having quit a few early aero 50's, did you get rid of them all?
In regards to the bbk 83-84
So I have an extra cylinder head that is severely pitted and came with the aero. maybe I can find a place and have it bored, then try to find a already existing piston that will fit my custom bore and will fit to the aero connecting rod.
Do you know if this connecting rod in the 83-84 is also unique in regards to the retaining mechanism it used to hold the piston head? I'm assuming that’s why the 85-87 kits wont work, as the cylinder head looks the same. And the new piston must not connect to the rod. Then keep my intake and carb stock?
I have also read in other forms you mentioning an aero80 reed system fitting in an aero50 and perform better? Is this true or have I just been reading forms to late into the night.
In regards to the metro wheel, I might just have to keep an aero wheel, 83-84 aeros are hard to find So just to reconfirm, the 83-83 and 85-87 are different rear wheels and not interchangeable? I’ve read other places that you can put the metro on the 85+’s so I can only conclude.

Look here for you parts. www.hondabike.com/fiche_select1.asp?cat=Scooters&mfg=Honda Alas, the Rod and piston are orphans as is the cylinder and head too. The reed thing is a problem as the block and reeds are orphans too. The wheel thing is true, the '83-'84 are different. Oh and my SPAM filter gets a bit aggressive and I never got your e-mail.

orphan, more like bastard lol. guess i wil have to do an engine swap. will any af05e fit? is there a difference in the elite motor? the spree ones wont work will they?
the rear 83-84 aero wheel is discontinued. but some stores still have some available ( large warehouse maybe?) but want $120+. i think i need to shop around for a used rear wheel. but if im going to do a engine swap i might as well hold out and get a complete motor + tranny and a wheel that will fit the 85+'s ( i dont think i want an 85 as it will have a two bolt intake and weaker reed system than the 86+ 4 bolt intake)
on another note bear i have noticed some people on forms flicking you sh*t. i would just like to again say thank you for taking your time and giving your expert advise in a very timely manner all for FREE.

The Spree is a downgrade from any Aero as the Spree had no variator. There are upgrades for the '85 Aero motor's intake system. Just watch flea-bay for a motor or craigslist for a parts scooter. Craigslist is where I found my spare '85 Aero 50 motor.
Thanks for the good words. most of the nay sayers have been proven wrong by me and it hurt their tender little girl feelings.

Okay so to update this posting here are my plans thus far
As my wheel is bent and my engine lacking the power it needs I have decided to swap in an af05e engine because parts and rear wheels are easier to find.
I will also be buying a bbk for the engine. Because the engine will be easily accessible when it’s not in the aero I will put on the bbk first.
Right now I’m trying to work out a deal on a complete 87 engine from Iowa ( i'm in Oregon)
I’m considering the bbk from VT cycles as it is the cheapest (90) And an arisl kit on eBay that comes with new rollers and a “performance ramp plate" but it’s 200.
As I am making this transition I will post the project as I have had a lot of difficulty finding this information all in one place.
On another note something weird happened to me today, me Speedo broke. Somehow the needle went all the way around, and with some force, and now is completely bent and stuck. I’ve though about popping the plastic cover off but I’m wondering if the needle will just try and spin around again? Speedometer I hard to find and I don’t want to get one and have it break instantly because of a bad cable.
To keep myself entertained while my shopping and haggling continues I’m going to try and burn the carbon out of my muffler. I was thinking of putting it in a bbq pit covering it with coals and letting it go. Maybe soaking some carb cleaner right in the pipe or some gasoline.
I know the message on this form says the form is dead but I know of one aero 50 the doesn’t think so.
Ill report back soon maybe with some pictures.

update:
so i have been reading on different forms a lot of information on roller weights. i had a guy claim that he was 200 lbs and with 8 gram weights in his variator he was very slow off the line and topped out at about 30 mph ( sounds like me).
He also stated when he put in 4 gram weights he was able to reach almost 40 mph and was fast off the line.
so today i thought id put this to the test as my weights are 8.2 grams each. Results: 4 gram weights was not enough to get it to shift gears. flew up to 20mph and stayed there reving kinda high.
i will wait until i do my engine swap before i decide to try buying other weights

You don't do 4 gram weight changes, counting all the rollers much less 4 grams per roller.

UH- OH i had a long push back today after my aero stopped working at mcdonalds. you could clearly hear the loss of compression. went home took it apart found the broken gasket. i had an extra gasket and tried to put it back together and like a dumb pos i broke my top ring. so i have a new gasket and new ring set on the way. was about $25 shipped from powersports plus. i am somewhat concerned that this hapened as the moped was sold to me with a new top end. here are some pictures Attachments:

I would suspect loose head bolts for this. You also need to make sure the head (aluminum) and cylinder mating surfaces are not damaged or it well repeat this problem.

MEANWHILE BACK AT THE LEGION OF DOOM..... i ordered in my af05e engine, it already has a rukus variator installed. i do however need a oil pump cable, and an exaust . the engine was 175+shipping. was more than i was willing to pay but believe it or not, it was the best offer i got out of the three forms on honda scooters and ebay. i will have an extra motor though so maybe i can find a frame it will fit on and have an extra scooter or i can sell it to someone and recoup a little.
