Just picked up this Aero125 from a friend for $150. 11,000+ miles on it. Had been sitting for a few years.
Fresh gas/oil, new battery, spark plug, and carb cleaning and now she's purrin! Seems to be running strong. Will test further when I receive airbox cover, gasket, and filter and test for air leaks.
Any common problems or issues I with these scooters that I should be aware of? Anything I should replace right away due to the age of the scooter?I'm used to dealing with the pedal start mopeds, so this is a new beast for me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Gas lines and fuel filter. I prefer the clear gas lines so you can see what is going on. Do not run it without the air box and air filter. It will burn up the piston from being to lean.

Get a new belt also (higher top end mph)

Get a new belt also (higher top end mph) If you are going to mess with the belt, clean the grease out of the variator and check the rollers for flat spots and replace as necessary.

awesome, thanks. looks like I'm going to have to fashion my own airbox cover. I saw a picture of a 125 running a universal filter like this though.... should I make my own cover, or scrap the whole airbox/fender and go with one of these?

I would make your own cover, shouldn't be too diffucult. These are tuned 2 stroke motors and there very picky about air / fuel mix, infact if you get it wrong it could mess up the head and piston (too lean) just my 2 cents. I'm sure bear might explain it better.

Using other than the stock airbox and filter will cause your engine to be lean. Lean enough to melt the piston and seize the engine lean. Using an aftermarket filter requires rejetting and all the rest of the screwing around that entails. Last summer I bought a new Aero 125 airbox cover and now they are NLA. Just fabricate a flat piece of plastic as a cover would be quicker and easier.
Better yet buy a CT intake for a DIO and a 26mm OKO carb kit and either make or buy from me an adapter from me and then you can use the aftermarket filters and have a performance increase.

thanks guys! finally got the airbox cover i needed. sanded and painted in my downtime. will post pics soon!
now i'm onto swapping out the fuel and oil lines. got new lines and fuel filter, and i've been digging into the service manual. i've still got couple questions....
1.) can I swap the oil lines without dropping the engine? 2.) after draining the final reduction oil, do i refill through the level check bolt hole? am i over looking a fill hole?

If you have small hands, no. My meat hooks required the scooter be on my ATV lift and disconnected the shocks so the engine would drop enough to reach the pump. FYI, don't let it drop so far as to stretch wires.2.) after draining the final reduction oil, do i refill through the level check bolt hole? am i over looking a fill hole? You fill it thru the level check hole.

thanks bear! got the day off tomorrow. changing all fuel/oil lines, new fuel filter, cleaning oil filter.
is there and easy way to check that my oil pump is working? at this point, i'm crusing around town 30-40mph (not WOT) but still worried that i'm running lean.
spark plug checked- white/brown/tan... definitely not rich.
this thing has sat for 2+years. trying to cover all my bases.

If you are using the stock carb and jetting then the scooter is fine for mixture. Other than doing a proper "plug chop" the plug tells you nothing about anything, except idle. Easiest way to check the oil pump is to top off the tank and run a couple tanks thru the engine, if the oil level drops, it is good, but if you have been riding and the motor has not seized, the pump is good. Oh and the oil has nothing to do with the fuel/air mixture and running rich or lean. So far even the scooter that sat for 10 years, the oil pump works great.

Thanks. The final reduction oil i drained out looked real old. I refilled through the level check hole, but it never really started flowing back out. Seemed like i put more than the recommended 90cc in it. Should i drain again, and measure 90cc?

I would just top it off until oil dripped out the hole. But then I have a real complete set of syringes for this stuff since the wife is a Para-medic.
