Hello aero people!

Proud owner of two 1984 aeros. Last year I convinced my girlfriend to ditch her china garbage factory scooter for an older honda. Found an aero for $150. It ran well but was missing both engine covers... No big deal. Topped out at 41 mph and ran great for a month. Neglected doing any maintnace to the machine. All of the sudden it started dying after warming up. After stalling out, it could not be restarted for a couple days. Then after a while it would not start at all. No big deal... It was $150. I put it away in the basement and starting searching for another cheapy 2 stroke honda. Found a mint looking one that ran great. Another aero 80. Same silver paint and all. It was perfect except the hefty price of $700. It was great, had more get up off the line and topped out at 45 mph. Needless to say she was very happy. Well an month passed by...... New scooter same problem. Stalled out after warming up. Eventualy it would not start again. Change the plug, checked it for spark. Removed the carbureutor and cleaned it thoroughly. No luck... Winter came and I parked the two aeros together..... Broken and sad.

Winter is ending and i still have two broken scooters and one pissed off girlfriend... Let me also mention that she owns our home and there is a six car attatched garage with 20 foot ceilings. If I dont get her back on an aero in 30 days she will start converting our garage into living space.... It's only a thret, but i'm not taking any chances. Besides loosing my dream gargage, I realy just want her to be happy.

I need more info on how to repair this problem. Let me know what your thinking. Feel free to ask me any questions. Writting this fast and poorly so I appologize in advance. Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from yall.

After a couple of minutes of warm up, shut the engine off and disable the bystarter system by disconnecting the hose going into the big nipple on top of the intake manifold flange at the carb flange & isolator. Plug the nipple ans start it again. If it runs now, your bystarter is bad. If not you have a plugged idle system in the carb (pilot jet or idle mixture).

Either that or you float level or needle and seat are bad. Also change your main jet from the stock 88 to a 90, JET, MAIN (#90) (99102-GHB-0900). It will cure the flat spot from 3/4 to WOT.

Bear thank you for the quick response. Sparing no time, i charged the battery and tried to start her up. Cranked over, but no fuel. The clear fuel filter attached to the carb was bone dry. Turned her over for a minute strait with the same result. The tank is a bit rusty but free of chunks. Maybe a clog at the tank outlet? There's a vacum diafram right? Don't remember having any fuel flow issues last season. Let me know what you think.

Pulled off the auto petcock. It's full of rust debris. Gonna assume that replacement is needed. Also all vacum hoses and fuel lines need to be replaced. Having some trouble tracking down a new auto petcock. Tried babbits and a few other sites. Any idea on where to pick one up? The upgraded jet seems to be elusive as well. Largest one I could find was #88.

The part is NLA (No Longer Available) from Honda. I bought a couple off flea-bay a while back, but have not seen any lately.

I am told that this petcock is the same as the Aero 80. I have one on the way to replace one of my Aero 80 valves.

Nice! I'll order one tomorrow. If it dosent thread up, i've got a machinist friend that can turn some adapters at work. Assuming honda elite ones are easy to come by, and operate the same way. Thanks for the parts info.

Just noticed it says m14x1.0, gonna borrow a thread gage and check it out tomorrow.

Bought the valve, it threads on fine. Removed the rust from the fuel tank, replaced all lines, filter and chem dipped the carburetor... Forgot about it, removed it four days later and it was toast.... So I stole the carb off the parts aero and rebuilt it with the keyster kit plus a #90 jet. Added a fully charged agm battery not mention a brand new fuel cap....... All ready to start and test minus the seat and plastics....... And no start... Fuel in the filter, spark at the plug wire, wet plug. Idle screw 1.5 to the left. Air screw has cap, cap handle pointing strait down. No idea where to start.

I have not compression tested yet, however the scooter was running last season. Tried starting fluid, still no start. Any good idea's Bear?

NO STARTING FLUID with 2 strokes. Two bad things happen, first there is no lube (2 stroke oil) in ether and it washes all the oil off the piston, tings and cylinder walls, leave metal to metal contact, very bad. Number 2 is the stuff does not burn, it explodes and if it actually explodes in the crankcase (it happens) you reeds are gone.

If you want to prime the engine, use a 23 to 1 gas to oil mix and either squirt it into the cylinder and then reinstall the plug or squirt it into the carb directly or into the airbox opening. Use one of these......
