yesterday i took apart and cleaned the carb... she starts up easy then still runs wide open... this is that point where i give up AGAIN for the 10th time PISSED...
i've installed a new plug, cleaned out gas tank and ran fresh gas, just cleaned the carb still need to figure out how to adjust it properly, new oiled air filter, new fuel filter and new fuel pump thing under the fuel tank...

The reason for the hard starting and WOT running when it does start is that you have the throttle slide installed wrong. Looking at the slide there is a full length narrow slot on one side and a short fat slot on the other side at the bottom of the slide. If you look in the slide bore you will see the idle speed needle (a brass colored pointy thing) sticking into the bore on one side and across from it a small tit on the wall of the slide bore. The full length narrow slot must line up with the little tit, or the slide does not drop all the way down. Hence the hard to start because the throttle in not closed and when it does start, WOT also because the slide is not all the way down in the slide bore. The narrow slot goes toward the engine.
To adjust the carb. Warm the engine up, run for at least 10 minutes. Now adjust the idle mixture screw (the lower screw) for the highest RPM possible. now adjust the upper screw for 1800 + or - 100 RPM or until the rear wheel is just not spinning whit the scooter on the center stand.

The petcock on the bottom of the tank has two fittings. The top on coming out of the side of the petcock goes to large fitting on the top go the carb. The fitting off the bottom of the petcock goes to the fitting on the intake manifold. Service manual can be found here. Download it and keep handy. www.hondaspree.net/other/Aero50_SM_83-84.pdf Look on page 4-11 for the best illustration you are gonna find. Main because the pictures in the online manuals suck at best.

no luck... i got it all back together and it still runs WOT... i rebuilt the carb, installed the throttle slide correctly, installed the petcock and lines correctly, charged the battery and she started right up... AND ran wide open! i messed with for about a half hour after that with no luck... now i'm here needing help... on a side note i have a 56 vw beetle inwhich i've totally rebuilt from engine to replacing the pans to the brakes and i've never given up... BUT this aero its testing me! /rant...

The throttle slide is either installed wrong, you have a major vacuum leak or the idle speed screw is way to far in. That is all that can cause this issue.
