wanted to post my rust removal thread over here, in case any of the members werent on hondaspree.net as well
okay, first off, this should probably be in another location, but, this is where it is for now.
so, as you may know, i just bought 2 nh80's in really bad condition. they have both been sitting outside in a very rainy environment. the rust is so bad in parts that the metal is actually broken off. i was searching the internet for ways to get off the rust(other than angle grinding, which doesnt get into the pits) and i stumbled across this.
www.videojug.com/film/how-to-remove-rust
i used the trickle charger i have for my scoots, and it only took a couple of hours and my muffler is almost completely rust free(the back side still needs done).
hope this helps anyone who is killing themselves w/ a wire brush and steel wool.
here are some pics of what i did, and please note, this was only for 2-3 hours, if i did it over night, it'd probably shine.

i went ahead and did the math to make it easier.
so. i used a 5 gallon bucket(only filled w/ 4 gallons) you need 1tsp of washing soda per pint
8 pints=1 gallon
so you need 8 tsp of soda per gallon
in my set up this equates to 2/3 cup. (48 teaspoons are in a cup)
here are the pictures(i will include the "after" pics once its done)
as in the video, i used a piece of scrap steel(i stole this from the scrap yard down the road)
hook your scrap steel to the positive, and the rusty part(not that my scrap isnt rusty) to the negative of your battery charger.

well, here are the results so far.
i put my clutch bell in at 2:05pm, its now 5:24pm and this is what i've got
before: after:
in case you dont know where to get washing soda...i googled it, and found mine at my local Ace hardware store. its about $3.50 a box.
i mean, yeh, i could go out and buy a sandblaster... or i can use free scrap steel, a charger i already have, and some $3 detergent.
