Greetings, Gentlemen. As of Saturday I am the owner of a 1985 Honda Aero (NB50M). I wasn't in the market for a scooter, but for $200 dollars I couldn't pass this thing up. The guy I bought it from was the original owner and the bike had been sitting in his garage since 1988. He informed me that the only thing that he was aware of that needed replacing was the battery and that mechanically the Aero was sound. With a fresh tank of gas and oil, we started it via a battery charger and both took spins around his neighborhood. I have very limited knowledge when it comes to things like this but I saw no red flags that said "walk away" so following my test drive I forked over the cash, loaded the scooter and headed home. Yesterday afternoon I bought a new battery for it, charged it, hit the start button and it fired right up. I took off on it and eased it up to about 25 mph, when it began to lose power and have a jerking / chugging feeling -- a sort of surging of the rpms. (Forgive me if this is a poor description.) I made it back to my house, the bike never died but as soon as I got it up on the stand I looked down and gas was pouring out from under the bike. I removed the side cover to locate the source and it was coming out of the small 2" side tube (what is the proper name?) on the carburetor. When I clamped the end of the tube the gas began to flow out of the air box. I couldn't mess with it at the time so I directed the tube into a small gas can and when I checked on it this morning nearly all the gas from the (full) gas tank had drained into the can. Any thoughts on what the problem is? Thanks in advance for your time.
