The 'home' package from 1&1 includes the registration of two domains and it's $3.49/mth for the first six months and then $6.99/mth there after. You could also do the beginner package which includes one domain and it's $3.99/mth forever, but the data amount is kinda small so if your forum got busy then you'd need to upgrade to a larger package.
Another thing you can do is create a gateway site to get more visitors. I few years back I created a forum on the Yamaha CV80 (Beluga 80 aka Riva 80) using a free phpbb3 site. So the URL is cv80.phpbbweb.com. Unfortunately that hardly shows up in search engines. I was too nervous to explore creating my own forum at the time and I didn't want to start over so I created CV80riders.org and using a simple website creator program I created a mainpage which is essentially just a link to the forum. This way people find CV80riders.org on search engines and then they go from there to the forum.
One big thing for search engine results is to have other sites linking to yours. I'll add links to this forum on my Aero pages in the near future.

thanks for all of the info dandurston. im going to switch over to a 1&1 site within the next few weeks. Then, ill put a link on there to here(aeroriders.proboards.com) so I dont really need to transfer everything. And I'll send all of the members emails that says we have moved over to a new site.
Do you know if they take Paypal?

sweet. we should be aeroriders.com or .net by the end of the month! as soon as I get some more cash in paypal i'll get the site from them and get to work on the site.
